DirectAdmin: A Guide to Connecting with FTP

In this guide, we will show you how to connect to your DirectAdmin web hosting account via FTP. We will discuss DirectAdmin web hosting, how to find your FTP details, how to install an FTP client and connect to the Site.eu server, and how to transfer files between your computer and the server. We will also cover common errors and problems and provide a list of recommended FTP clients to use.

To follow this guide, you should have already purchased a domain name and a DirectAdmin web hosting package with Site.eu. Web hosting can be included with every domain name you purchase through Site.eu.

Connecting via FTP to your domain name

When using Site.eu as your web hosting provider and wanting to connect via FTP, simply use your DirectAdmin username and password. These details can be found on the web hosting page of your domain name in your dashboard on Site.eu.

To connect to your website via FTP, you need an FTP client. This is a software program that allows you to upload and download files to and from your website. There are various FTP clients available, but we will focus on the most popular ones, namely FileZilla, WinSCP, and Cyberduck.

Downloading and installing an FTP client

You can download an FTP client for free from the provider's website. Download and install the program on your computer. The installation process is simple and does not require any special knowledge to complete.

Connecting to the FTP server

After installing the FTP client, open the program and enter the FTP details. The following information is required:

Hostname: this is the name of the FTP server. For example, "da005.site.eu" if your DirectAdmin control panel is hosted on "https://da005.site.eu". Pay attention to the URL of your DirectAdmin control panel.

Username: this is the same username as your DirectAdmin username.

Password: this is the same password as your DirectAdmin password.

Port: the FTP port is by default 21.

Click 'Connect' and wait for the connection to be established. If everything is entered correctly, you can now upload and download files to and from your website.

Uploading files to your website

To upload files to your website, drag them from the local folder on your computer to the "public_html" folder in the FTP client.

Common errors and problems

FTP username or password incorrect?

If you have forgotten the FTP username or password, you can reset them on the web hosting page of your domain name in your dashboard on Site.eu. Your FTP username and password are the same as your DirectAdmin username and password.

FTP server incorrect?

Do not enter your domain name as the FTP host, but for example, "da005.site.eu" if your DirectAdmin control panel is on "https://da005.site.eu:2222". Pay close attention to your DirectAdmin control panel URL.

The FTP port is always 21.

"Under construction" page visible?

If you still see the "Under construction" page from DirectAdmin after uploading your website files, you probably need to delete the default index.html file provided by DirectAdmin.

New domain name: is your website not visible?

If you have recently registered or transferred your domain name, it is important to remember that it may take approximately 24 hours for your website to be visible when you visit your domain name.

We hope this guide has helped you to connect to your DirectAdmin web hosting account via FTP and successfully upload and download files.
