Import and Export DNS Records Using BIND Files

Managing DNS records just got a whole lot easier. We've added a new feature to your Site.eu dashboard that lets you import and export DNS records using BIND files. Think of it as a quick backup and restore system for all your domain name's DNS records.

What are BIND files?

BIND files are standard text files that contain all your domain name's DNS records in a format that's widely recognized by DNS servers. It's like having a universal language for DNS settings. Pretty handy, right?

With this new feature, you can:

  • Export all your domain name's DNS records to your computer as a BIND file
  • Import DNS records from a BIND file
  • Choose whether to add records or completely replace existing ones

Why would you need this?

Good question. Here are some real-world scenarios where this feature comes in handy:

  • Moving domains between different hosting providers
  • Creating backups of your DNS configuration
  • Setting up similar DNS records for multiple domains
  • Sharing DNS configurations with your team or developer

How to export your DNS records

Exporting is super simple. Just head to your domain's DNS management screen and look for the export option. Click it, and a BIND file will download to your computer. This file contains all your current DNS records - A records, MX records, CNAME records, the whole works.

How to import DNS records

Importing is just as easy, but with a twist. When you upload a BIND file, you get two options:

  1. Add to existing records: This keeps your current DNS records and adds the new ones from the file
  2. Overwrite all records: This replaces everything with what's in the BIND file

After choosing one of these options, we'll show you a preview of all the DNS records. You can review everything before deciding whether to save the changes. No surprises!

Getting started

Ready to try it out? You can access the import/export tool right from your domain's DNS record management screen. For detailed instructions on managing DNS records, check out our guide: How to manage your domain name's DNS records.

This feature is now available for all Site.eu customers. No extra cost, no complicated setup. Just log in to your dashboard and give it a try.
