Got a domain name that wasn't registered with Site.eu? No problem. Our hosting, website builder, and email services work perfectly with any domain name. Even if you didn't register it with us.
But here's the thing. You need to follow a few steps to make everything run smoothly.
Let me walk you through them.
Step 1: Add your external domain to your dashboard
First things first. You need to add your domain name as an external domain in your Site.eu dashboard. Think of this as introducing your domain to our system.
Here's how: Add external domain names to your Site.eu dashboard
Step 2: Link your domain to a plan
This step is crucial. Without linking your domain to a plan, you won't be able to use any services with that external domain name.
Follow this guide: Link your domain name to a Site.eu plan
Step 3: Activate the services you need
Now for the fun part. You can activate whatever services you need:
- Need email? Go ahead and activate it
- Want web hosting? Turn it on and link the DNS to web hosting
- Website builder? Same story - just activate it and link DNS to the website builder
Step 4: Configure your DNS records
Here's where things get interesting.
Visit your external domain's control page in your Site.eu dashboard. Click 'Domain settings' → 'Advanced settings'. You'll see all the DNS records you need to create.
Now, you have two options:
Option A: Use our nameservers (the easy way)
Want to make your life easier? Link your domain to our nameservers. Here's why it's best to use the default Site.eu settings:
- No need to manually create DNS records
- We automatically manage your DNS records for you
- Just set it up once and forget about it
- If you want to create additional DNS records, you can do so via your Site.eu dashboard
Important: See that yellow button on the page? You must click it. This tells our system you'll use our nameservers. Skip this step? We won't add your domain to our nameservers and your external domain name won't work.
Option B: Use your own DNS provider
Prefer to keep using your current DNS provider? That's totally fine too. Just create the DNS records we show you with your DNS or domain name provider. Learn more about linking your domain to external DNS.
But keep in mind:
- You'll need to create or delete DNS records every time you activate or deactivate a service
- If you move between web hosting servers (which you can trigger yourself), you'll need to update the DNS records again
That's it!
Follow these steps. Your external domain will work perfectly with all Site.eu services. Our nameservers or your own DNS provider - either way works great.
