So you're thinking about transferring your domain name to us, but you're wondering what happens to those remaining months you've already paid for at your current provider?
Let's keep it simple.
Our straightforward policy
When you transfer your domain name to Site.eu and pay for 1 year, you get exactly 1 year with us. That's it.
It doesn't matter if your domain has:
- 2 more months left at your current provider
- 2 more years left at your current provider
- Any remaining period whatsoever
The remaining time does NOT transfer over to us.
Why do we do it this way?
There are several good reasons for this policy:
1. It's about fairness
Think about this scenario:
Let's say you've paid another company for 4 years of domain registration. Now you want to transfer to us and pay us for just 1 year. Should we then give you access to our dashboard, customer support, high-quality DNS servers, and all our features for 5 years total, while you only paid us for 1 year?
That wouldn't be fair, would it?
Our Site.eu dashboard is packed with powerful features to manage your domain name. We have developers working around the clock to improve it and roll out new features constantly. We need to pay them somehow!
2. It's confusing otherwise
Some domain extensions lose their remaining period when transferred. Others don't. Rather than trying to explain which domain does what (and confusing everyone in the process), we decided to keep it simple: all domain transfers work the same way.
The bottom line
It's really that simple:
- Pay us for 1 year = Your domain stays active with us for 1 year
- After that year, you'll need to renew it or transfer it away
- If you don't, it will be deleted at the registry
This applies to all domain name extensions, no exceptions. So please keep this in mind when planning your domain transfer.
