Enabling Email: How Long Until I Can Log In?

The short answer to this question:

It may take up to 24 hours before you can successfully log in to your new email addresses after you enable our email service for your domain name in your Site.eu dashboard.

Make sure your domain name is using the default Site.eu DNS settings and you're not missing any DNS records.

The longer answer to this question:

1. Make sure you don't miss any DNS records:

- When you enable email on your domain, Site.eu automatically creates the necessary DNS records if you’re using the default Site.eu DNS settings.

- If you’re not using the default DNS settings, you’ll find the DNS records that need to be created in your domain control panel.

2. Propagation time:

- What is propagation? It’s the period during which DNS changes spread across the internet, updating all servers so they point to your new email configuration.

- This process can take up to 24 hours, so different devices or networks might still see old DNS information until the update is complete.

3. How to check:

- We recommend testing your new email address by logging into Webmail.

- Webmail is a browser-based email client that connects to your email account’s IMAP and SMTP servers, just like a desktop or mobile email client. If it works in Webmail, it’ll work in your other email clients too.

- Once you can log in through Webmail, you can safely add your new email address to an email client (e.g. Outlook or Apple Mail). Read this helpdesk article for instructions on using IMAP, POP and SMTP.

4. Sending and receiving delays:

- During the 24-hour propagation window, you might be able to log in but still experience delays or issues when sending or receiving emails. This is normal and should resolve once propagation is complete.

If you still have issues after 24 hours, double-check that your DNS records are correct and consider contacting our support team for assistance.
